Summary
“I always hoped I’d meet a cute guy in the grocery store.”
Sam can’t help but burst out laughing. James Buchanan Barnes of this universe is flirting with him in such a dorky manner that he just can’t believe this is real.
A heavy flush creeps up to Steve’s face as he joins in on the laughter sheepishly. “What? Was it – Sorry, that was dumb, huh?”
Sam shakes his head, his hand finding the handle of his cart. “No, man, sorry,” he lets out, grinning ear to ear. “It’s not dumb. It was cute."
Steve raises his brows, smiling. “Cute?”
Sam's smile doesn't falter. “Yeah, cute.”
or
Sam falls into Fresh (2022)'s universe and meets Steve Kemp — a man with the same face as his partner and feels a little off (in more ways than one).

Duncan Snow was a bastard boy with dreams of knighthood up in the wintry halls of Last Hearth. As a tourney in the Riverlands beckons his family to come, fortune's eye seems to smile on Dunk, though he hardly seems to be happy about it.

Summary
“I will do right by you,” the Stark finally croaked out. Was the promise aimed towards Prince Aegon or himself? That, he did not know. “I will care for you. You won’t need to spend a single day hungry, or cold, or lonely. You won’t ever have to wonder where your home is, even if you can’t be with your own blood. I will do my best for you.”
Duncan Stark, freshly minted Warden of the North and Lord of Winterfell after his father and three elder brothers were killed in a Blackfyre Rebellion that went on much longer than it should've, wasn't sure what to expect when the king offered him a Targaryen ward as a show of goodwill.
Having a newborn prince pushed into his arms, though? That was insane, even for him. But he's the babe's guardian now, whether anyone wants it or not. And Dunk will be damned before he allowed little Aegon to feel lonley in his new home for even a single moment.
(aka, the prequel to Northwards Lays My Heart containing a few snippets of Egg's childhood in Winterfell. The previous work is not required to understand this, though I do recommend you read it for context.)
