Stiles accidentally finds a trunk full of Derek's professional dom gear from when he lived in New York. They don't talk about it. Then Stiles turns eighteen, and they do.

If he thought Derek would be angry or embarrassed at Stiles finding a trunk full of quality BDSM gear in his closet, he’d have been wrong. “I used to do it professionally, in New York,” Derek says easily, and Stiles—Stiles doesn’t know how to process that. Stiles' kidnapper was maybe five feet tall, adorably plump, and probably pushing fifty. Stiles was forcibly kidnapped by this woman. In fact, when he had tried some of the defense maneuvers Derek taught him, she laughed and said encouragingly, “That was a good one! You keep trying. I’m sure you’ll do just fine against your next opponent.” No one must ever know about this.
Or, five times Stiles called for Scott (but got Derek instead) and one time Scott actually came.

Summary
It's 2045 and though the world is a much different place, humans aren't. They still experience happiness, anger, grief- continue to deal with it in strange and personal ways. Derek is one such human.
Thing is, this world doesn't just belong to them anymore. With the invention of androids, there's a thousand and one new ways to see and live through it all. With built in curiosity, a need to please, and different methods of understanding, they too are just trying to figure it all out. Stiles is one such android.
Unable to make it on their own, they try and parse out an existence together- haltingly, violently, unsure, but together.
