Ivo hates winter.
The festive clamor is too much on his senses. Winter should be peaceful and quiet, yet he's constantly bombarded with tinsel and shimmering baubles and trinkets, and so much green and red and white he could choke on it.
At least his labs are safe from such trifling things.
That is, he thought so, until he catches Stone stringing fir garlands around his desk and rummaging through a small box of decorations set lightly upon its surface.
"Stone," he hisses, "just what do you think you're doing, bringing that kind of insipient frippery into my labs?"

"Left myself open," Robotnik hissed; or at least, he tried to. But he couldn’t actually hear his own voice to confirm he’d managed it, because there was nothing to conduct the sound waves. No sensory indicators of any kind. No feedback from his body. No one to hear him complain. Because nothing else was here.
Because apparently that’s what happens when whatever the old man had powered the station with blows up.
It sends anything in the epicenter to nowhere.
But it doesn’t kill them.
Exquisite torture. Robotnik had to hand it to the nature of the universe on that one. And it wasn’t even trying.

Well, kind of. Turns out Stone's got a whole new life in the suburbs. With a job, and a pet cat, and a sensible sedan. And he seems happy.
And given that Ivo very recently came to a certain Realization about Stone and, subsequently, decided to be nicer to him, kicking in the door and destroying his entire life seems... suboptimal. But that's fine. Ivo can work with that. Ivo can be normal too.

Dr. Robotnik had never questioned Stone's loyalty. It was weird, and probably unhealthy, and definitely indicative of some deep-seated issues on his henchman's part, but it also made perfect sense. Who wouldn't want to be a loyal servant to someone as brilliant and powerful as Dr. Robotnik?
Except now Robotnik's a washed-up half-dead overweight useless loser who can't even maintain his own crab.
So why the fuck is Stone still here?
