But Caitlyn was sweating now, wobbling on her feet—one of them needed to keep their heads. Vi had endured several broken ribs; this was nothing new.

Or, during a romantic vacation, Caitlyn proves she sucks at bouldering and crashes down a cliff. Vi tries to get her home safely, but there's a problem: Vi definitely snapped a rib breaking Caitlyn's fall. It may have also punctured a lung. Breathing is getting kind of hard.
But it's fine. Vi's fine.
(She's not fine.)

The second time Vi visits the statue, she can’t shake the ache from her bad right shoulder and that, in turn, makes her remember all the things she wishes she could forget.
“Hey,” she murmurs to the stone. “I don’t know if you know this, but the thing about being assumed dead is that it’s kind of fun to scare people into realizing you’re not.”
That works out okay, for a while. It’s like the old days, the Firelights crow, or it will be if they can get things back to how Vander left them and Vi…
Everyone always trails off at that part.

Caitlyn has loved and she’s lost. Maybe getting drunk and sorta but not really (most definitely) cyberstalking the one who got away wasn’t her best idea for ending an evening. Unless maybe it is, if she can swallow her pride.

Dr. Kiramman steers her through the chaos and plants her in a chair. Does something to her arm that hurts like fuck, then drapes her in bags of ice and wraps her in a sling. Blinds her with a pen light—“Called it,” she mumbles when he confirms she’s concussed—and presses two pills and a warm mug into her hand. It smells herbaceous. Familiar.
“I brought the good stuff from home,” Dr. Kiramman confesses, and it takes her a moment to understand he means tea. “Extra honey for you. I know you haven’t acquired the taste.”
He’s right in that she only actually drank it once, the first time it was offered—the afternoon they spoke to the Council, several lifetimes ago. But she tasted it just this morning in Caitlyn’s mouth, grassy and sweet. So she pops the pills and takes a sip. Tries not to think about whether that terrified kiss over breakfast was their last. “I want to see her.”
After the war, Vi and Cait recover, and rebuild.

“What can’t you take anymore, darling?” Mel, who had been focused on a conversation with Jayce, turned her attention to her friend, who looked completely pathetic, slouched on the sofa with an expression that could be described as deep despair.
"Vi." She replied, opening her eyes and sitting up straight on the sofa as an idea crossed her mind. "I can't keep flirting with her without knowing what we are. She's literally the personification of my dreams; I can't keep doing this."
“Why don’t you talk to her?” Jayce asked, sounding like it was the most obvious thing in the world and maybe it was, but at that moment, Caitlyn wasn't thinking straight.
Not after receiving yet another photo of Vi after the gym, with her muscles and smile looking absolutely hot.
“I will do better.” Caitlyn adjusted the neckline of her top, picking up her phone again. “I'll send her a picture of my boobs.”
