“I lost everything.” Blake’s voice breaks, the end of her word vanishing in a croak.
“Like what?” Yang demands, pushing on despite the fact that she wants to drop everything. The past pieces of herself—of them—are already on the floor at their feet. There are fragments and shards cluttered beneath them and Yang is done with attempting to find enough glue to hold herself together. “What have you possibly lost, Blake?”
“I lost my home.” You. “I lost my happiness.” You. “I lost the only person I’ve ever loved.”

“Nineteen,” Yang says. Blake nods, the confusion on her face disappearing. She reaches out with one hand and lays it atop Yang’s prosthetic. Gently, she guides Yang’s hand down so that there isn’t a gun in her face anymore. Yang doesn’t fight her. “How old are you?” Yang asks. Blake sighs, shakes her head, half-smiles.
“Thirty-two."

Underneath, however, Yang perceives the truth: Magicians, like her and her sister, are threats which must be controlled. But she doesn’t expect war until she meets a girl with one clawing at her shoulders.

Summary
AU: Blake Belladonna was bad luck. At least, this was Adam’s excuse when their crops began to fail. She was a curse, he liked to say. She began to dread each moment spent alone with him, and how quickly his eyes would flash with anger. Blake wasn’t a superstitious woman, but after a while, it was hard not to feel like she was cursed. Maybe he had a point.
But curses weren’t the only superstition in their village. One night, Blake heard a sweet song echoing through the valley. Blake had never heard of a banshee before, but she couldn’t believe that such a beautiful song could be an omen of death. There had to be more to it than that. So it was refreshing, to meet someone who agreed with her.
“You know,” Yang remarked, tilting her head thoughtfully. “You almost make me want to sing.”

Summary
Yang joined the Atlas Foreign Legion for an arm, not to get stranded deep in the desert in Vacuo with Team CFVY having stumbled upon a frankly terrifying piece of Remnant history that should have stayed buried. Now, three years, later she’s faced with an impossible offer: guide some scholars back to the desert or get shot for treason. Turns out facing your fears isn’t that hard when your life’s on the line.
Blake just wants to stick it to the Atlesian scholars who dismiss her scholarship and won’t let her into the academy because she’s a faunus from KuoKuana that’s risen above her place. She’s heard tell of a place deep in the desert of Vacuo which was once sacred for early faunus, a place that may well sort out the historical origins of the stories of the God of the Animals, but she can’t get there without help.
Or, Blake’s Evie and Yang’s Rick and Weiss is certainly not Jonathan but she is stuck financing this shitshow.
