Vi leaned back on her hands, casually saying,
“Can I ask you somethin’?”
Her next question had been on her mind for a few months now and over the last two weeks it was constantly rolling over in her head.
“You may,” came Caitlyn’s voice, a hint of curiosity.
“What’s it like to fly?” This made the hovering woman smile. One that slightly showed off a gap in her front teeth. Damn… what does the rest of her look like?
“Shouldn’t you know? Ms. Jumper,” her voice had that teasing tone in it again. Vi let out a loud laugh while crossing her ankles.
“Please never call me that again and I don’t fly. I fall, with style,” she said with her own full smile. Caitlyn chuckled but tilted her head in thought, seemingly looking for the proper words to describe it.
“Honestly… it feels like pure freedom,” she finally landed on.
“It really looks like it,” Vi said softly.Or:

Caitlyn's eyebrows shot up. A flicker of annoyance crossed her face. "Read them aloud? Ms Lanes, I appreciate your… enthusiasm, but are you expecting me to babysit you through these files? This is a high-pressure environment. We don't have time for hand-holding."
When Vi finally left, her cane tapping lightly on the floor as she moved towards the door.
It was then, as Vi turned, that Caitlyn saw it clearly. The way her eyes didn't quite focus, the subtle reliance on her cane, the practiced ease with which she navigated the room.
Caitlyn's eyes widened in realization. She hadn't noticed. She had been so focused on the recommendation letter and Vi's reputation that she had completely missed the obvious.

“You want me to apologize to some rich Piltie councilor for blowing up one shabby lab?” He’s got to be kidding. “Why? It’s not like they can’t afford to buy ten more of those. They probably wouldn’t even have noticed if the enforcers hadn’t made such a big deal out of it.”
“You’re not apologizing to Cassandra Kiramman,” Vander sighs and for the first time, Vi can see his age in his wrinkled brow and tired eyes. “You’re going to apologize to their daughter, Caitlyn.”
Vi frowns, “Daughter?” She didn’t know the Kirammans had a daughter. “Why the hell should I talk to their daughter?”
“Because Sheriff Grayson has told me that she’s been in the hospital since your little stunt topside.”
She stops pacing, her feet rooted to the old carpet as her blood runs cold.

Vi grinned and followed her. They clambered into a boat, and two other students quickly joined them—a nervous-looking boy with glasses and a grinning girl with short, reddish-blonde hair. Something about her very presence set Vi’s teeth on edge. Maybe it was how stupid her hair looked, Vi thought to herself, before deciding that she should at least try to think positively.
“All set?” Hagrid called. When the students gave their confirmations, he raised a massive hand—
The boats moved on their own.
Vi sucked in a breath as their little boat glided smoothly across the water.
The castle loomed larger with every second, its reflection shimmering across the inky lake. The sight was breathtaking—but Vi couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling curling in her stomach.
The closer they got, the more real this became.
She was really going to Hogwarts.

Taking a steadying breath, Vi jogged toward the batter's box, her cleats kicking up dust. She wiped her hands on her pants, flexing her fingers around the bat as she stepped up. She planted her feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and held the bat firm but loose—high enough for a quick, controlled swing. Her focus locked in as she stared down Caitlyn.
