Summary
I don't keep my characters new and shiny while I let others play with them, nor were they built that way to begin with. They may present themselves as well-spoken and traveled, aesthetically appealing or powerful, but they are weighed down by mistakes and the worst habits that could push them towards downfall.
They are at once gods and monsters as well as forsaken little children who love and despair in equal measure. Some are self-aware enough while others are perhaps far too much aware. And then there are those with no coherent sense of self at all, and they either mimic the actions and speech of those they deem models or recreate versions that serve as armor as much as costumes rather than dealing with the emptiness. Some are songs I listened to over and over that their records had become well-worn along the groove and needle yet still just as crisp in sound as the first time they were played.
Others yet refuse to perform at a timely fashion; they habitually rebel and refuse my authorship but in the end, they're also the same ones who would surprise me with thoughts and actions I would otherwise never read for myself unless I allow them seize the quiver and bleed into the pages.
