Midoriya’s features grow soft as he smiles, small and gentle, a hopeful little thing that also seems so incredibly sad. As if he knows all that hope is fruitless, the tree from which it sprung barren and dying with each passing moment, roots unable to find nutrients amongst the rock in which it finds itself. Still, it’s there, even as he hesitates to respond.
Shouta still doesn’t know how he can seem so serene. There’s a tranquility, an acceptance to his very being, to this very place that seems so wrong. Like he’s given in, and is ready to let go.
Shouta refuses. He refuses to let go of that hope, and he refuses to allow his student to do so as well.
Shouta is left with something he doesn't understand, and isn't really sure he wants to.

Katsuki drops his arm, his phone slipping from his grasp and hitting the floor with a dull thud. His voice is rough when he mutters out a gruff, “No,” before striding toward Izuku with purpose. Before Izuku can react, Katsuki snatches the bag from his grip and tosses it onto the kitchen counter. Confusion flickers across Izuku’s face, his lips parting as if to question— When Katsuki grabs his face, fingers firm against his jaw, and yanks him forward. Their lips collide, rough and desperate, a clash of heat and unspoken words. The air crackles between them as Izuku’s breath stutters, his hands instinctively gripping Katsuki’s shirt. For a moment, time narrows down to the press of their mouths, the taste of urgency, and Katsuki pulls Izuku deeper into the kiss. The two meld together, desperately grasping at the other. Katsuki breaks the kiss, leaning back and simply staring as Izuku’s mouth opens and closes in shock before breathlessly speaking.
“Wh-what was that for?”

And then he did it again, and when what he was sure he’d just imagined didn’t disappear, his heart skipped a beat. For a second the world went silent. The sound of people entering the coffee shop, the soft chatter of conversation, the sound of everything all faded into the ringing filling Katsuki’s ears. He couldn’t breathe—fuck, he couldn’t even move, because standing right in front of him… was Izuku.

Katsuki can never joke in regards to Izuku, though. So he’s spent the last month running around to make sure this proposal goes off without a hitch. It’s only inevitable that Izuku would see through his thinly veiled excuses of late night missions and errands for the Commission.
Izuku handles the fact that Katsuki is hiding something from him just about as well as one could expect– level headed and not jumping to any horrible conclusions.
