    Summary

    A wager, then. A challenge.

You found your way in here, didn’t you? Now walk out. Your little knight will follow. Find your way back out of the last set of doors, vessel, and you can keep him. But look back, falter, fail… and both of you are mine.

“Deal,” Avery says, without hesitation. He’s come this far. He can’t fail Derek now.

(Avery finds his way back to the platform, and the eyes, and his knight. Like he told Derek; he won’t leave.)

    Bookmarker's Notes

Avery begins talking to him again. About the life they’ll have after that, after all of it, a base and a mine and a house.

“I’d like that,” Derek replies to Avery, quietly. He knows Avery can’t hear him. He talks back anyway.

“I can build. Or I’ll try, at least. Something simple. With a farm? And a garden, nothing too fancy. But I’m bad at combat, Avery, you’ll have to handle that part for me.”

“He knows me and he cares about me,” Avery says, and Derek reaches out, swallowing, whispering, “I do. I care about you so much, Avery, I’ll follow you anywhere-”

He will. He really will. This is Avery. Derek will follow him to the ends of the earth and back again. Even without infinite knowledge, he’d know this to be true. Because he knows Avery. And he cares about Avery, more than he thought he ever would.

    Summary

A reimagining of Destroying a World That Doesn't Exist.

    Oh, Avery.

    It'd come to Avery.

A man he'd come to know, every detail.

Every crevice of his brain, his own soul inside and out.

It made sense for him to try and save Avery.

But it didn't make sense for Avery to try and sacrifice himself for a man he did not know.

    For him.

Derek cannot save Avery, or deter him from leaving, nothing he says will work. Avery refuses to leave, he won't leave Derek to be nothing but a mere sacrifice. So, what happens when Avery decides to invoke only part of the spell?
Could the King hold power over both Derek and Avery? The ability for his total power to be stretched between the two men?
Could they find the will and the way to destroy this digital world, as well as the King and escape from it back into reality?

Will they be able to defeat a God?

    Bookmarker's Notes

"Don't ever say anything like that again, you're so much more than you give yourself credit for, Avery."

"More than love is what I will feel for you, Avery," he declared. God, was Derek convinced of this, nothing would ever make him question it again.

"Until the day I draw my last breath."

    Summary

Avery hasn’t left his house since Derek died. The recording still sits untouched—he can’t bring himself to watch it, let alone upload it to YouTube. As the days blur together, his mental state steadily unravels, guilt and avoidance eating away at him—until one night, he has a dream that feels… different.

    Or

What happened between New Years and March 30th. Derek begins to appear in his dreams guiding Avery through grief, guilt, and everything he’s been trying not to face.

    Bookmarker's Notes

It was Derek. Unquestionably, impossibly him.

"Oh my god," Avery whispered, his vision locking onto the knight's gaze as if blinking would cause the universe to fold in on itself. "It's you. It’s really you."

"Me," Derek echoed. The word was simple, but it carried the weight of everything they had lost and found again.

Avery let out a jagged scoff, a sound caught between a laugh and the fresh surge of tears already blurring his sight. "You... you found me. You actually found me."

"That I did," Derek replied, his voice steadying the chaos of the dream.

    Summary

“You want to throw my laptop off a cliff.”

“Or smash it. Or set it on fire. Or all three. We can workshop it.”

There’s another quiet laugh, but it doesn’t quite stick the landing. Avery hears the hesitation creeping back in, curling around the edges of D3r’s voice like fog.

“In person,” D3r says, not quite a question.

“Yeah,” Avery says easily, like it doesn’t make his stomach flip. “In person. I wanna meet you.”

    The words hang between them.

He watches D3r’s character on screen because it’s easier than imagining D3r’s face doing whatever it’s doing right now. The avatar doesn’t react, of course. Just stands there in the pixelated grass, the moon casting a pale square light over his shoulders. Avery imagines he can see tension in the way the model is angled, which is ridiculous, but he’s very good at projecting onto blockmen at this point.
