“I’ve been watching you,” he said. He glanced up at you, pulling at one of his boots. He pulled it off and then looked at you fully. “Been watching you run around these woods.” A smile played on his lips, and you suddenly felt very embarrassed about the fact that he could see you the whole time. “Hunting is fun,” he continued. “And listening to you scream like an animal got my heart racing…” He pulled his other boot off and dropped it onto the floor, the loud thud making you jump slightly.
He looked up at you, his eyes warm and his smile comforting. You tried not to think like that, but the more you looked at him, the more it wouldn’t leave your head. He really did look like he would be nice to get held by… “But I think you’re less like a deer,” he said, reaching out and placing a large hand on your head, his fingers tangling in your hair, “and more like a dog.”

Falling to your knees. The towering Princess lifts your chin with Her index finger, and watching her face, her expression, her eyes — you realize you won't be able to kill her.
The puddles of blood you kneel on top off, the tremble on your grip, the voices in your head. They all tell you you don't deserve to hold the implement that would bring down this about to be world-ender.
But that doesn't mean you've ran out of options.
There are more ways to cut through a princess's heart.
