Kaeya was the lone mechanic in a deep-space station so small it didn’t warrant a name on a star chart. Diluc was a nobleman, reluctant captain, and the thorn in the paw of aristocracy galaxy-wide. Once upon a time, they were so close it seemed fated that they would die together. Now they were estranged, positioned on two separate ends of explored space.
As for the unfortunate scapegoat? That could be anyone if the ones looking were desperate enough.
Seeing as Kaeya was the last of an ancient bloodline that had become an increasingly hot commodity to the crumbling Empire, and Diluc had a list of enemies that only grew larger by the day and was double-sided by the list he earned doing vigilante work, the Empire was very desperate.
When things came around, as they always did, it was thanks to a well meaning letter, a drunk bard, and the death of a good friend.
