    Summary

Dalinar has always respected Kaladin. So when he notices the way Adolin looks at him, Dalinar has the perfect idea: ask Kaladin to be Adolin’s date to his and Navani’s wedding.

Adolin and Kaladin agree, if only to make Dalinar happy. They’re not dating. They don’t even like each other that way.

    Except… maybe they do.

Pretending feels too easy. Too natural. And after the wedding, they’re left with feelings they can’t explain and definitely can’t ignore.

“Kaladin,” Adolin repeated, “You want me to take Kaladin as my date.”

    “Correct,” Dalinar said.

“Kaladin,” he said again, “You mean Bridge Four Kaladin. Captain Kaladin. My… friend Kaladin.”

“You like him, Adolin,” Navani said gently, “And we just thought… well, maybe this was a way to help you take the first step. To stop pretending it’s only friendship when it clearly isn’t.”

Adolin choked, “What—?” His voice cracked, “You think I—? That I like Kaladin? As in… like‑like?”

    Dalinar frowned, “Don’t you?”

“No!” Adolin half‑shouted, “No, of course not. He’s my friend. My best friend.”

    Wasn’t he?

    Summary

Ignis pulls a whistling kettle off of the stove. Noctis twitches at his side, a threadbare sock tickling his thigh under a heavy knit blanket. Gladio must be nearby, too; Prompto can hear the deep rumble of his voice, sending a shiver down his spine unbidden.
Maybe there’s no one here at all.
He’s lying still enough to be dead, he thinks.
At least he can hardly feel the cold anymore.

Prompto can take care of himself. He's mastered the art of it in the years he's spent on his own, carefully weaving a delicate veil of explanations for the prince and his entourage.

He can juggle his classes, his work, and the endless piles of bills in the entryway. He can get by on the meager scraps left for groceries when rent is due.

At least until a frozen pipe and an ever observant advisor make it impossible to keep up the farce.

    Summary

Bilbo Baggins isn't sure about this. Not one bit.

Frodo is definitely too young to enter into an arranged marriage with a dwarven king called Thorin Oakenshield. It's a good thing that Bilbo is there to chaperone him through their courtship.

After all, there's no chance that a fussy hobbit bachelor would ever catch the eye of a king.

    Summary

The port of Edo burned along with the city, and Mizu must travel further afield in search of a vessel to charter for their voyage to 'London'. They travel on foot, making camp along the way. It is a stilted journey, shared by allies of circumstance.

Their clothes reek of smoke, blood, and sweat, and their injuries need tending. When they happen upon a hot spring, it is too good a stroke of fortune to pass up a bath.

Whether these two mortal enemies can bathe without incident is another matter.
