"Alright," Wei Ying echoes in a wheeze.
"Is that better?" Lan Zhan checks, because he is a good boy. Then he spreads his fingers out a little wider, because he is evil and must be stopped.

“Wei Wuxian,” Jin Ling says slowly. This doesn’t look like someone who thinks sixteen years is too long to fix a misunderstanding. Jin Ling is going to get his dajiu a husband today. “My dajiu really liked your new album. There are a lot of details in your songs that feel very personal to him.”
(Or, Jin Ling schemes to reunite his dajiu with his dajiu's high school sweetheart.)

“You’re not even in music,” Jiang Cheng hisses under the background of voices arguing.
Nie Huisang raises an eyebrow and pulls out a French horn. In the front of the room, Wei Wuxian’s voice rises.
“I’ve never seen you use that,” says Jiang Cheng.
“I’m a man of many mysteries.”
Wen Qing turns around. Her rubberband and cereal box guitar creaks ominously in her hands. At her glare, the two of them fall silent just in time to hear Lan Wangji say, cool as a cucumber:
“It is no wonder that Wei Ying never writes for real instruments, since he can barely write for ones of his own creation.”
Nie Huisang looks like Christmas has come early. “This is even better than I imagined.”

The cultivation world is rebuilding from the wreckage of the Sunshot Campaign, but Wangji and his shield brother Wei Wuxian are still completely attached at the hip. It is sad that Lan Xichen’s brother is stuck in the youthful pattern of - ah, no polite way to say it: exchanging handjobs with his shield brother - rather than moving on to more adult pursuits.
On the other hand, now that the war is over, Wangji does seem so much more open and happy than he was as a boy. He smiles sometimes, mostly at Wei Wuxian. Once, he even took an afternoon off. Lan Wangji patiently described each item to this Wei Wuxian as he carefully packed them into boxes, lined up neatly next to the napoleons, giving quick details about the plum macarons, the maple eclairs, and the salted caramel palmier cookies.
Wei Wuxian’s eyes widened further with each description, until his head sank down onto the arms he'd folded against the counter, a groan escaping his mouth.
“Stop, please,” he said. “This all sounds so good I’m worried I’ll dive face-first into the boxes the moment I step out of here...have mercy and tie those boxes extra tight, won’t you?”
And if Lan Wangji was a little generous with his packing, already having made up his mind to provide double what the man had asked for at no additional charge….well, that was because it was the end of the selling day, and these pastries were all going to a team of well-deserving healthcare workers.
No other reason.

It’s commonly agreed that Wei Wuxian is the most shameless of all men, rarely if ever hesitating to say his true thoughts — even if they are improper.
Yet, somehow, for some unknown reason, every time Lan Wangji shows even the slightest bit of kindness towards him, Wei Wuxian becomes a blushing mess and a bumbling fool, hiding his face behind his hands, spouting whatever nonsense goes through his head, and then running away before anything else can be said or done.
…leaving a very confused Lan Wangji behind.
Why is Wei Wuxian acting that way? And why is he acting that way only around Lan Wangji???
