“Toothless—“ the boy began in Dragonese.
“Wodensfang,” the dragon corrected the teenager, well according to Astrid they were pre-teens. Whatever that meant. Twelve or eleven years old. He doesn’t understand human aging. When Wodensfang was ten to eleven he was still a hatchling. “remember? Woden—sssss—fang.”
Hiccup rolled his eyes and opened and closed his palms. The Wodensfang narrowed his green eyes and tried to figure out what the motion meant. Probably some sort of mockery. The dragon retorted to the mockery by swishing his tail at the log the boy was sat on. Hiccup, the little slimy yellow belly, somehow managed to stay on the log. Probably through sheer willpower as the little worm has a lot of it.

Toothless has worked as hired security during dragon raids for the last couple years—well, he got paid to protect some buildings and some farms whenever the dragons attacked. It was the only way he could currently pay the town back for their kindness of feeding and housing him, so he didn't say no when Bandit, the local blacksmith, asked him to watch the forge during the next raid. Someone had been taking advantage of the chaos to steal materials, and it was his job to stop them.
Toothless realizes he might be in way over his head when he actually lays eyes on the thief.
