Summary
Robby swears it hasn’t been any longer than ten minutes when he steps out of south fifteen and hears Perlah gasp, “What door did he come in from?”
The tone is startling enough. The ominous, non-specific him makes Robby want to flatten his back against the nearest wall.
It doesn’t take long to find the him she’s referring to. He’s not a patient that Robby has seen today. The man in dark pants and thick, brown boots looming between the psych rooms and the stairs sticks out like a sore thumb. Each and every head around the room seems to turn to him suddenly, cataloging his every move. He’s not very large; stocky, five foot eight at most- but the way with which he carries himself. The tension of his shoulders and the way he leers and looks around the room would make even Goliath falter.
It's been a while since Robby heard the story, but he’s pretty sure it’s going to take more than a stone to disarm this man and the chef’s knife in his right hand. There’s a splotch of blood on his shirt where his jacket isn’t zipped.
Robby has never wished so suddenly that there were less people around.

Summary
Things have been good, lately.
Trinity has been good. She likes going to work—likes the thrill of particularly difficult cases, likes the easy back-and-forth she’s starting to build with her coworkers, even likes arguing with Langdon. She likes her little apartment and she likes that she gets to share it with Dennis. (It’s way cleaner, now, and she eats real food half the time. And she has something to do in the evenings other than think about everything she’s lost).
Things have been good.
She should’ve fucking known what would happen if she let her guard down.
~~~
Trinity is cornered on her way home from work. She gets out of it with a stab wound and a whole new wave of old trauma. (And of course, her least favorite coworker is the only one there to talk her down.)
Summary
Love gets them into all kinds of things, doesn’t it?
It’s what got them into this one after all. Darry loved his brothers enough to throw all his dreams away, loved them enough to spend his twenties breaking his back, loved them enough to become a completely different man. The Darry from last year was gone and they weren’t ever going to see it again.
When Darry's hurt turns into something a whole lot worse, everyone realizes that he's the only thing holding everything together. What do you do when the glue's gone and you're left with only the shards?
Summary
Sodapop Curtis comes home from Vietnam spitting, shining; the tarmac the plane floats on down to at Travis gleams grease-gold in the sun of early morning. The strap of his rucksack is cutting lines into the pink of his palm. He’s got another plane to catch back to Tulsa, back to Darry and Ponyboy, the lope of the sun splitting the street into strips of light. One year. He hadn’t let himself miss it, hardly.
