Summary

Summary
In which Lestat runs a political machine in New Orleans from 1914.
New Orleans in the early twentieth century is a rapidly changing place in a rapidly changing world. In half a century, language, race, immigration, gender, agronomy, and industry in the state will be turned on their head. From the outside, it appears that Louisiana—like the rest of the Solid South—is a unified Democratic bloc, bound by a common commitment to Bourbonism, state's rights, and White supremacy. Internally, however, the Democratic Party is an amalgam of competing factional interests with incompatible beliefs and just enough power to mess things up for everyone else.
It is into this careful semblance of balance that Lestat throws his wrench, and Louis will have to learn how to make the best of it.
