    A Low-Effort Account of High-Stakes Nonsense

    Holly is done with saving the world. After a war, funeral after funeral, and one unfortunate wish made to a magical room with no sense of boundaries, she ends up somewhere very far from home—and very much someone else’s problem.

    Now she runs a not-entirely-legal bakery in a city where flour is political, dragons are supposed to be terrifying (hers is the size of a teacup), and minding your own business is practically a crime. She’s got no interest in thrones, titles, or noble nonsense.

    Which is exactly why the nobles won’t leave her alone.

    All Holly wants is to survive, stay unimportant, and keep her pastry case full. But when a certain highborn woman starts showing up for tea, Holly finds herself dragged—reluctantly—into court gossip, royal secrets, and a mess big enough to topple a kingdom.

    She didn’t come here to change the world. But the world keeps showing up at her door.

    It’d be good for Buck to have another cat around him. If Bobby’s lucky, Eddie’s mellow temperament would rub off on his crazy orange menace and make him less of a terror.

    Of course, that was delusional of him to hope so. If anything, the two were even worse together.

    Buck pawing at people’s legs as a distraction while Eddie stole something off their plate. Buck dragging gloves or socks into Bobby’s office like trophies while Eddie followed behind to drop the stolen items into Bobby’s trash can. Napping in the most random places and therefore forcing everyone to check the engine every time just in case they were inside. Following people around and plopping down belly up at their feet like two meowing speed bumps. Knocking random stuff off the shelves.

    Just last week, the two had stepped on the PA mic, Buck broadcasting a steady stream of purrs and random meows throughout the entire firehouse until Hen found Eddie serenely perched on the button.

    Bobby somehow ended up adopting not one, but two demonic cats.
