Asa doesn’t want to drag herself out of bed at 7:06AM for the business phone, but Denji, Nayuta, and the dogs are probably still asleep. Besides, today is the day she promised to do something to shake up their household dynamic.

Summary
Asa and Denji successfully prevent the Apocalypse and solve most of their current problems as of chapter 220. They now need to navigate a world where devils are still a dangerous problem, Asa now has to adjust to having a new devil-powered body with no devil constantly whispering to her, Denji has to come to terms with the loss of his family (again), and how human society and Public Safety view/deal with them. This is intended as a fun happy ending for them that still has fairly canon-compliant struggles though they will not have anything as terrible as what has already happened done to them. They both deserve a happy ending and I fear our lord Fujimoto will give us something upsetting or bittersweet. So enjoy this story of two broken people struggling together to be less broken and have a happy ending in such a cruel world. Starts off immediately after stopping the Apocalypse and kicking Yoru out of Asa's head.

NOVEMBER 2025 UPDATE: For years, I've wanted to edit this story. I learned so much about writing and knew I could make this story so much better. This fic has a special spot in my heart. I think it might be my favorite because it isn't what you initially expect it to be and has a great Everlark HEA ending. It's part sad, Capitol prostitute, part spy-thriller, part rebellion, love story. All of that is my long-winded way of saying that I'm currently working on rewriting this story. I should have 1-2 chapters finished every couple of days, so if you're interested in reading along, there won't be a long wait :).

Maka liked words, liked the sprawling secrets they kept locked away in symbols and code, the sound of their lilt and cadence as she read. She liked happy endings engraved in ink and coaxed from reams of yellowing paper.
The only words Crona knew dripped snake venom. The only stories they knew were tragedies, not the type studied in classrooms, but grotesque tales derived from a lifetime of violence. There was only one other person who was familiar with that type of darkness, who knew how to tame and weave it into something— someone— that Maka could truly love.
