Daryl's mama once told him something that he never really appreciated while she was alive. When stuff got bad, she'd look at him with that exhausted half-smile on her face and crouch down so that she was eye-level with his much shorter self. "Honey? At some point- something's gotta give. You just gotta be sure that when it does, you're strong enough to handle what happens next."

After they lose Beth, the decision to keep surviving is hard. It takes everything they've got to keep going.
And the funny thing was? When Daryl faltered, Rick always seemed to be right there to pick him back up.
This is a story of how far you have to fall before you can make it back up again, and of the people who make it all worthwhile.

Summary
“There are a great many stories about you from one land to another.” Her eyes flitted down, a foolish fault but one she knew he would catch.
“And what might those be?” As if she didn’t know half of them, her voice came out sharply, whispered in low land taverns and high halls.
His voice became if it were possible, more gentle. “Some men I knew from Edoras said Theoden’s daughter was a changeling from Fangorn. Years ago they said you were a weak child, likely to die in infancy, but of course, that was not so.” He said, eyes heavy-lidded, considering her, trying to find the truth in all the tales that were spun surrounding her.
“You know what men are like with their stories,” she retorted, turning away from the painting to a tall stone statue, a broken sword laid across its arms like a funeral shroud.
