Adam can't bear the idea of anyone knowing the entire topography of him, not even the man he trusts and loves most in the world, and he expects that Lawrence feels the same.
But still, as far as secrets go, "I've secretly been working alongside the serial killer who gave us both PTSD and physical disabilities, and I've been lying to you about it for the entire duration of our relationship" is a pretty damn big one.
