Bilbo flees after the Battle of the Five Armies, convinced that Thorin wants his head. Whispers of a small creature leaving the camp eventually reaches the Company, but after so long, who knows if Bilbo made it all the way home?

Bilbo would be very, very discreet before he went back to the Shire to nurse his broken heart. He was going to be heartbroken when he went back anyway, so he may as well enjoy himself for now.
Thorin was sure to tell him if he stepped out of line, so it was foolproof, really.
