Summary
“I didn’t know”, he starts.
The man doesn’t respond but Venti can feel those gold eyes burning into the side of his face.
“I wouldn’t have been here if he told me he had a boyfriend.”
He shoots a glance over to his company, trying to gauge his reaction. The anger he saw directed at him earlier has completely drained, the space filled in by an emptiness.
Venti can see the shine on his cheeks, the red eating at his eyes.
The hurt.
He feels his stomach sink.

Venti finds out his one night stand has a boyfriend, leading to him becoming the cause of their messy breakup. A chance encounter leads to the addition of a new person into his apartment to the chagrin of his friends, the unlikely support network has Venti finding both himself and Xiao on the path towards healing.

“I see,” says Venti. He observes as Xiao takes another swing from his wine glass with an uncharacteristic enthusiasm. "So then what’s the deal with that exorcist kid?"
Venti watches, captivated, as Xiao chokes violently mid-drink, tries to suppress his coughing, and proceeds to set down his glass guardedly, in some truly misguided attempt at nonchalance. "...I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Ah. Well, my mistake, then!"

Summary
For the longest time, Xiao is alright. Everything is alright.
Except when it’s not, most of the time. But that’s the norm, the usual. The price the Vigilant Yaksha accepted and that comes with his duties.Xiao became used to listening to Barbato's music from afar, rarely allowing anything further throughout the millennia. He tries not to overthink why the divine tunes saved him, or if he was even worthy of it. It’s alright too, he doesn’t have to know, it’s for the best to limit such unattainable desires.
Until it all changes when Venti decides to weave his presence into Xiao’s life, not as a god, but as a dear company, a contrast to the shadows. For once, Xiao allows something good to bloom inside of him.
