Sha Ka Ree by ThereBeWhalesHere. 180,5K

This. Is. INCREDIBLE!!!  When I started reading, it grabbed me and didn't let go -- I was swept away and surrounded by the beautiful imagery and the sheer empathy the author created for these young men. I did nothing but read, eat, and sleep for two days; thank goodness for retirement. As Runpunkrun said in a review on Dreamwidth, "Jim and Spock's relationship is created from scratch, and it's wonderful seeing the way their friendship builds, the shared yearning for more, all of Spock's slow emotional work as he tries to incorporate these new feelings into the rest of him, and Jim's best attempts at being patient with him." I love the way they work together for survival, and then forge a deep friendship, each supporting the other, until it becomes more. It was a wrench to put it down for mundane things like sleep; plan to read this over a long weekend when you don't have much else to drag you away from it. And then my art muse jumped on me with both feet, and I created cover art.

The Mouse Prince by what_alchemy. 3,7K

This is the sweetest fairy-tale ever, sort of a cross between Cinderella and The Frog Prince... but with a surprising twist at the end that is absolutely delightful.

    Diplomatic Complications by Sixthlight. 14,4K

Arranged marriages may be common in wealthy families -- but when the groom doesn't know a marriage has been arranged, and certainly doesn't want one, it throws a wrench in the works. Nicolò rejects the idea of marriage, and Yusuf can only accept that -- but everyone around them really, really want the two men to be married. Yusuf doesn't know how to do the seduction that Nile suggests, but a friendship slowly grows between them, and then more, which leads to a thoroughly satisfying ending.

    Summary

Very good,” says the Prince. “Now. Listen carefully. Congratulations, Signor al-Kaysani and Signor diGenova; you are to be married. To each other.”

(or: Yusuf and Nicolò are ordered to marry each other to end a family feud, while both pining for their secret lovers (each other). This goes about as well as you’d expect.)

Men of Their Word by Sixthlight. 18,5K

When two very stubborn men are forced to marry each other to bring peace to their families -- and the city -- they determine to have as little to do with each other as humanly possible. But something has to give -- eventually -- and each learns that the other is [a] not a monster, and [b] actually quite talented and likeable... and [c] that Prince Andy knew what she was doing all along. <snicker> Very neat little twist at the end.

Also, I love how the background is fleshed out, both for the period and for the hints of Yusuf's and Nicolò's family life -- just enough to let us know what experiences have made them what they are, but the story is so much richer for that. Excellently done.
