Gator kind of wishes he’d just fuck off, because freezing to death sounds like a viable option right now.
He sniffs. Smells blood, tastes it on his tongue again.
Cold’s sinking into his bones, and Gator feels old, much older than his eighteen years.
He cranks the window down.

Steve’s cheeks heat up again.

A traumatic brain injury leads to a downward spiral for Steve. He's dropped from the Blackhawks, his recovery is slow and rocky, and he's got no idea what to do with his life.
Enter his old friends, Eddie and Dustin, who spend their time poking around decrepit haunted locations filming for their YouTube channel. Steve doesn't really believe in all this ghost stuff, but he's got nothing better to do than join them.
Besides, he might just be ever-so-slightly head-over-heels for Eddie Munson.

“There was a fire. At the mall. I worked there? At Scoops Ahoy.”
The way he says the last part sounds strange, like it’s really important somehow that Eddie believes him.
“Okay,” he says, then adds, “Is that why you look like that?”
Eddie’s never met a fire with fists, but he wants Steve to tell him what happened—not just assume.
There’s a beat of silence, like Steve’s weighing his options, and Eddie knows a lie’s coming before Steve even opens his mouth.
“Yeah. Building caved in. We made it out—Robin and I. Paramedics checked me over and said I couldn’t drive, so I decided to walk.”
Almost ten miles, Eddie estimates. Sure. Totally normal thing to do in the middle of the night, battered and bruised, after escaping a fire.
But he’s pretty sure that’s all he’s going to get, so he settles on, “Good thing I came along, then.”
“Yeah.”

“Steve…Steve, I’m so sorry, sweetheart,” Eddie cries, holding Steve close to him. The alpha winces at the pressure on his ribs and Eddie loosens his grip. “I’ll kill them,” he snaps, “for what they’ve done to you, I’ll fucking kill them.”
“Eds…” Steve mumbles, more blood bubbling up in his mouth with the words. “You gotta go…gotta tell everyone it was all me, ok? That I broke into your room, that I forced myself on you…” His throat closes up around the words, and he settles a hand on the side of Eddie’s neck, thumb brushing over the scent gland there.
Eddie shakes his head. “No.”
“You have to.”
“I won’t.”
