Summary
Barnes knows what Rogers would like to hear.
I remember you.
He doesn’t. He has wisps of memory as insubstantial as everything else the chair took from his brain. They’re always accompanied by the taste of metal in his mouth.
He stays because it’s safe, because Hydra cannot get to him here, because Rogers—still waiting for his dead friend to claw his way out of the Winter Soldier’s broken psyche—will go to the ends of the earth to find him if they do. There’s a strange security in this knowledge, but Barnes knows it won’t last. Rogers will only wait for so long, and Barnes cannot tell him that his friend died screaming in the cold.
So he watches Rogers watch him, and Barnes doesn’t know what he’s looking for, but he knows he has found it the first time he sees Rogers’s eyes drop down to his lips and dart guiltily away.
Barnes pretends he doesn’t notice and unlike Rogers, he can act. The Red Room made him well, and the Americans could ruin only so much.
He changes his act, a few weeks in. He starts looking back.

“Alien…aphrodisiac.” James blinks and takes a few deep breaths, absorbing the information to scratch his head over later. Steve’s the priority now. “At least tell me he didn’t leap into the path of the alien whatever.”
The Widow laughs. It’s half for show, James knows, but he thinks he can see genuine amusement in her cool green eyes. Steve’s better at reading her, but Steve’s apparently busy rubbing one out in the bathroom.
“Not this time,” she says. “It’s not a weapon. One of the scientists grabbed the first thing they could in a panic. Steve was the only one in the room with them and got a faceful of blue dust. The effects took a couple of hours to show.”
“And the scientist who used it?”
“Was trying to fuck a wall, last I saw.”
James grimaces.
“It’s not very dignified,” the Widow adds, noting his expression. “Like I said, either the serum’s handling the worst of it or Steve’s real superpower is his moral compass.”

Summary
“Where’s your boy-toy?” Sam asks, barely five minutes into his visit.
“Sam,” Steve groans, exasperated and maybe a little scandalized. His rational mind is aware that Sam doesn’t know anything. He just said that because he and Bucky have a vaguely antagonistic friendship with its own set of complicated rules, one of which seems to be that they will never, in any situation other than explicitly life-threatening, call each other their actual names or anything else that can be construed as nice or affectionate.
It confuses Steve as often as it amuses him, but on this occasion, embarrassed shock overtakes both.
Sam slants him a narrow-eyed look that’s a little too knowing for comfort.
“I see I’m not wrong.”
Steve turns on his heels and gracefully nopes out of that conversation.

Summer's memories of Colten were blurred, like the frayed edges of an old photograph. She could recall his tall frame hunched over in their apartment a few times when she was small— a presence that was both comforting and distant.

Ripe for the taking, was how one of the beta girls described him with a look in her eye Bucky really didn’t like. She said that once Alphas had their teeth in you, you were toast. You were their mate then and they could control you, control your thoughts, and while you could try and get it reversed, you wouldn’t want to, cos you’d be under their control.
But no Alphas had tried to kidnap and mate him on the street or on the subway. They’d all ignored him. Besides, the sisters said Mr. Rogers was kind. A respectful Alpha.
