She could see it—the way the walls trembled, the ceiling cracking and giving way to the weight of the world above. The doors to the outside were just ahead, but the path was too long, the castle too unstable. The realisation hit her like a punch to the gut.
They wouldn’t all make it out."
In the aftermath of defeating Emperor Belos, Luz and her family make a desperate run for safety. But when Luz realises that not everyone will make it out alive, she makes the ultimate sacrifice, staying behind to save those she loves. As the Boiling Isles rally to find her, Luz sends out a final, flickering beacon of light, a signal that she is still alive, still fighting, even as exhaustion claims her.
