Honestly, Jason isn’t even thinking about anything when it happens. They’re in the Cave so he’s on edge to begin with — Bruce is behind him, a looming shadow to his left — and he’s had a shit week and he’s tired and pissed-off and he just wants to get out of there. So when Tim gets to, like, part 6 of his presentation about these shitty out-of-town traffickers who have set up shop in Crime Alley and are targeting Alley kids, and there’s still no actual conclusion, he can’t help himself. He interrupts.

It's not *Tim's* fault Batman slept with his mom sixteen years ago, or Tim's fault that Bruce Wayne regrets signing away his parental rights fifteen years ago, but Jack Drake sure thinks it is. Now Damian is bugging him about cows and family and Jason and Dick won't stop kidnapping him and Bruce is acting like court orders don't matter, like he doesn't have a huge bat-shaped secret to protect from literally the whole freaking world.
Why is Tim the only functioning adult in this situation?
This was supposed to be coated in angst, but it fell in the fluff bucket instead. (So, update, some people are saying this may not be as fluffy as I am advertising it. I plead the 5th.)

That’s not entirely true. His palms are just a little bit sweaty. There’s an odd pressure at the back of his throat and an odd tingling along the back of his arms. He also suddenly seems to be slightly short of breath.
But it’s nothing that Tim hasn’t felt before, so it’s easy to ignore it all.

Hood lifted the gun he was holding higher, pointing it directly at Bruce. “Don’t move.”
It took all of Jason’s willpower to stop, and the look Damian shot him said it was the same for him, a dangerous stand-off with Bruce’s life on the line.
Even knowing it was Tim didn’t help Jason believe he wouldn’t pull the trigger.
