Summary
Shane is warm in a hotel bed, soft beneath his hands, grinning sweetly when he thinks that Ilya can’t see him. He makes breathless, gasping sounds that have Ilya going hot all over, finding himself wanting to draw more of them out. Hollander's hands are gentle and nervous, eyes glossy from where he looks up at him, sprawled out on the sheets. Every kiss is one that Ilya doesn’t want to break, like a star bursting in his mouth. Ilya wants to see him in the daylight, wants to count the smattering of freckles that dot his nose and cheeks.
He pulls away, always away, his fingers finding the glinting gold of his mother’s necklace.
Shane Hollander is boring, and he is way too good for Ilya.
And yet Ilya nips at his heels like a dog starved for affection, begging for scraps from a feast that he has never tasted.

“When did you start feeling like this? Did it come out of nowhere or you think something happened?” she asks.
“It started in Detroit in December, last year. I do not remember it from games in Vancouver and Edmonton before that.”
“Do anything out of the ordinary then?”
“No, I do not—” he comes to a complete stop, and Ash walks ahead of him for a few steps before turning.
“What? What is it?”
The picture swirls in front of him like vibrant water colours splashing on a canvas. Cliff beckons him over to where he and Victor are perched on their bikes, and Victor holds his phone out to him. The headline is clear: Is Rose Landry dating MLH star Shane Hollander?
A pit forms in Ilya’s stomach, cramping uncomfortably as if carved with a rusted knife, and distantly he recalls feeling the same way back in December.
There is no fucking way that’s been the problem.

“I’m sorry, but my answer is no. Someone else might be willing to switch if you ask.”
“I can’t believe—this is unacceptable! I’m going to call the flight attendant over and get this sorted out right now!”
Flustered and cornered, Shane injects his Captain Voice into the conversation. “Ma’am, I understand that you’re upset, but I paid for this seat and am going to stay here. You’ll have to find someone else willing to change places or just fly with the seat you booked. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you.”
She hisses like a goddamn tea kettle, and starts to say, “You are the most selfish man I’ve ever—” when another voice behind her says, “You are blocking my seat. Move.”
Shane and the woman turn to assess the new arrival. It turns out that his seat partner is well above six feet tall, ripped as hell, and knows how to deliver an excellent bitch face. He’s also the hottest man that Shane has ever seen in real life, including a chance run-in with Jensen Ackles at a Stars game.
Or, still!famous Shane meets non!famous Ilya on a cursed flight from Ottawa to Boston and kind of (totally) falls in love with him at first sight (and first chirp)

Summary
Devour was a good word for what Ilya wanted to do to Shane. Eat. Devour. Rolled off the tongue. But he hated that he could not think of an English word to convey the resonant, drilling consonants ringing in his brain when he kissed Shane with depth and hunger bordering on cannibalistic. The consonants in the Russian word that meant an act between consume and gobble up, with hard zh and rolling r sounds, were a crunch so delicious he could chew on it forever. Sometimes Shane felt like that. Like the crunchiest, most delicious hard candy in the mouth.
God, the stupid fucking English.
