Summary
After Cecil's latest show, and his commentary on Carlos' diligence during the town's lazy day fugue. Someone at StrexCorp takes an interest in the scientist and his work.
Too bad for them - Carlos has gone kind of native.

This is the sort of Adams-Family-horrifying that I adore, and I will *always* be a sucker for "Mad Scientists."
Short and sweet, this story--more than anything--paints a striking image. An individual comfortable in their chosen field, their found family, their new being: surrounded by things bizarre and deadly in that they are foreign; instead, content and loved. To quote the source material, "[It] becomes perfect when you learn to accept it for what it is.”
This vignette does a good job of painting this saying across "yourself" and "your work" and "your home" -- acceptance leads to perfection. Also, how *cool* is Carlos here, amiright?

Fandom: Fail_Fandomanon RPF, His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman, Welcome to Night Vale

Summary
More than a century after the events of His Dark Materials, a Rusakov particle physicist (and lifelong Lyra Belacqua fanboy) brings a team of experimental theologians to Night Vale.
It was supposed to be a simple research trip. Instead, Carlos finds himself making a home, falling in love, and — with allies like the alethiometrist who adores his hair, a well-read middle-schooler who's handy with a knife, and a young woman accidentally displaced out of space and time — facing down a gathering crisis which threatens to topple the entire Republic of Heaven.

Bookmarker's Notes
I never thought of reading either of these fandoms until this fic came around and hybridized them into one of the most compassionate and charming adventure/romance/survivorship/fantasy/multi-fanon stories I've had the pleasure of reading. It marries both settings in a way that strengthens them and flushes out aspects that aren't covered in canon.
Go read it. I don't think you'll be disappointed: it's amazingly well-written. The characterizations are varied, diverse, and nuanced without being overwhelming (although you might want to write down little reminders about the cast if you're as bad at names as I am).
Generally speaking, the focus is on the characters of WTNV, and Night Vale as it appears within the world of HDM. Brief mentions of characters from HDM (who are historically part of this 'verse). Enjoy! <3

Bookmarker's Notes
When I think of extraordinary fanfiction this piece comes to mind: it redefines the way my brain conceptualizes these characters, and in a way that I feel is respectful to their original concept--which is saying something, because I'm fundamentally against any "pairings" from "One Piece" because it tends to distract from the bonds of Nakama which are so important to the source material. That being said, I'm a sucker for argumentative couples, and couples that throw off yaoi stereotypes... For these reasons (and more), I'll give in and read Sanji/Zoro fic on occasion.
This takes a somewhat worn-out trope and plays it like a fiddle. Expertly presented, the characters struggle, love, and fight hard enough to bring even the most stubborn reader along for the ride. The sexual tension is palpable, the angst is fair, the emotions are intense, the humor is sneaky, the violence is beautiful, and the entire story is well-written, paced, and complete.
Needless to say, whenever I read modern AU for One Piece I find myself just wishing that I was re-reading "Memories."
Bonus: Never has gripping the back of a couch been so hot.
Bonus-Bonus: No, seriously, if you like underground fights and violence you shouldn't be reading my bookmark: you should be reading the story. -

Summary
A moments silence hung heavy in the room before the four friends quietly came to the only course of action available to them. The only course of action that might save the village from a fate worse than another attack by Orochimaru and his legion of grumpy snakes… bored Jounin.

A beautiful little story which always--always--makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times I read it. At the very least, it gave me headcannon whiplash with the line, "Besides, the academy sensei was sure that Ibiki really did enjoy it when he snuck into the T&I department and turned [Ibiki's] office into a den of lava lamped, shag carpeted looove."
Headcannon whiplash.
Fun and quirky, this is one of those gems that I look up time and again for some enjoyable light reading with some of my favorite portrayals of these characters.
