Summary
Alastor is supposed to be perfect, his smile never faltering. It’s why he’s so feared throughout the pentagram, after all! Of course, certain things get under his skin, undermining everything he’s worked for seam by seam. At least he has other weirdos to help him.
OR: I forced my autism and some trauma upon Alastor because of course I did and now he’s having meltdowns

Summary
In simple terms: Alastor and his mother were Dahlia's nearest and kindest neighbors while she suffered an abusive and isolating marriage.
Freshly married, Dahlia's husband moves them away from her home and family, to a small town and a big house in rural Louisiana. While adjusting to the realities of her new life, she finds solace in her work as a seamstress and in the company of her nearest neighbors, the Helsby's. Over time, as she suffers the dangers of her marriage and discovers the darker secrets of Cordylia and her son, she begins to weigh the differences between her social obligations and her personal morals. Did her mother truly raise her for the marriage she's been trapped in? Would her father approve her methods of survival? How will she defend the choices she makes?
