    Victor flinches and Oz can't blame it on the growing coldness when it was so visceral. You would think they were still mid-operation the way Vic was acting, all tense and strung tight.

    As the minutes passed the kid– the cop– gradually came to life. His head bobbed on his neck and then lifted. There was a streak of blood that ran from his hairline into his eye and his bangs were plastered to it. He seemed lucid, at least, if not totally alert, and who could blame him for it after the way they’d knocked him around earlier.
    “You know,” he said, “far be it for me to tell you how to do your job but if I were you, I’d steer clear of the tall guy in the future.”
