James Potter’s hands were rough. They’d always been so, for as long as his memory was clear, soft dirt caught perpetually underneath the beds of his fingernails. There were flower stains on the tips of his fingers from lilies and tulips, they stain bright yellow, like dipping your fingers in sunlight. His calluses were from digging with heavy hoes and shovels. From the same movements, over and over for days that fold into months that run into years.

He looked absolutely indignant at the suggestion and whipped his head around to make sure no one had heard.
When he decided that no one had, looking at the confused faces surrounding him, he seemed to relax a bit. He gritted out, “No fucking way.”

Regulus Black is off limits and bad news, and the knowledge that he shouldn’t is the only thing James needs to follow Regulus home. What starts out as a reckless way to release tension quickly turns into a romance with the potential to alter the course of the war.
