If it weren’t for the fact that Jason had been in a somewhat good mood lately, Tim probably would have been a little more concerned about this fact. Still, it’s weird when, instead of ignoring Tim’s existence like he usually does, Jason walks over to him directly and says, “I'm in a time loop and I don't know why. Fix it."

Bernard...doesn’t seem to think so. Not in the least, if the nervous bob of his Adam's apple is anything to go by.
Tim creeps behind him, utterly silent until his nose almost tickles the back of Bernard’s neck, then whispers in his ear, “It’s haunted.”
Bernard shrieks.
Alfred opens the door.
A solid ton of polished oak and brass and institution caresses the floor in a sweeping curve, giving way to Bernard, Batman t-shirt underneath a blazer, cherry red in the face. Tim snickers beside him.

Bruce doesn’t know what’s wrong with his child, but he’s pretty sure kids aren’t meant to work like this.
From the day he had looked up into the tops of the circus tent and saw a frightened mirror image of a boy who had just experienced the worst day of his life, Bruce had instantly gone into emergency mode.
The Gotham PD had wanted to pass the boy off into the care of the circus. The circus had mumbled underneath their breaths about superstitions, about not having a boy like that with them, about not being able to handle something like Dick. So GCPD, not knowing what to do, had started talking about one of the handful of overburdened boy homes that handles a majority of Gotham’s unlucky orphans.
All the while, the camera lights flash bright and loud, wanting to know everything.
Bruce couldn’t let that happen.
Not then, not ever again.

Bruce is trying his best to protect the city that he loves. He doesn't know how exactly his Robins came to be- they're not fully human, not even at all. All he knows is that he wants to keep them safe.

"The drive from the marina to Bernard’s school on a normal day was about thirty minutes, plus traffic. Tim had gotten good at predicting it since he and Bernard had started dating, wanting to be able to take every minute he could with Bernard before sending him off for classes, and he knew that a normal Wednesday in the middle of the afternoon would be about a thirty-five minute drive.
Today, on a Wednesday in the middle of the afternoon, Tim made it in fifteen.
He blamed the bit of tension in Bruce’s voice when he’d called to let Tim know that there’d been trouble at the college. Blamed the fact that Bruce hadn’t had much to say beyond "everyone is out safely. I’m investigating what happened now." Blamed himself for letting Bernard ever get out of bed that morning."

The unnatural shifts in his words and the variations in pitch being just ever so slightly off putting. Borderline uncanny, yet everyone who’s heard it knows there’s a human behind that voice. A man who choses to blow a hole through someone’s skull without so much of an afterthought.

Or, Red Hood is captured, Nightwing saves him and while helping him afterwards, puts the wrong puzzle pieces together and confronts him which does not go quite how he planned.

“I can't believe I'm saying this but he’s breaking my heart, dude."

They lose both the battle and the war when Damian stops waiting for them and instead stumbles forward, almost drunkenly, and unceremoniously flops himself on Jason’s front, full-on crying against his chest.
“Jesus fuck, Baby-bat. Who do I have to kill?”
(Or the one where Jason and Tim come to the Manor on the early hours of the day after a long night of patrol and they find weird new kind of life form out of this world that cries with snot and all inside the Manor. It takes them some time, because they are both dumbasses, to convince themselves that's actually their little brother crying his eyes out.)
