In which John is a slave named Indigo, and his new master doesn’t seem to know the first thing about owning slaves. Modern London setting, starts with a reworking of "A Study in Pink" but with John as a slave. Sherlock and Indigo get to know each other and feel out the dynamics of their relationship--Indigo has had a lot of bad masters in the past, but Sherlock, despite his eccentricities, is a vast improvement.

“They can’t, Sherlock, that’s the point.”
“Well, then they shouldn’t be allowed to tell you what you are. It’s stupid, it doesn’t make any sense.”
Sherlock knows a lot of things. He knows where plants get their green colour from, what the first element on the periodic table is, that DNA is the shortened form of the term deoxyribonucleic acid, how long it usually takes his mould cultures to grow to a respectable size and that Mycroft is his brother. He doesn't understand why people keep disagreeing with that last one, though.

John waited as one, two, three text messages came in on his mobile. He thumbed through the texts, reading them a few times, and scrubbed his face with his palm. He glanced over the message in its entirety and sighed as he looked down at Sherlock. "Okay, so you're physically fine, not sick, but you can't speak right now because you've..."
