Odysseus watched silently as the girl grabbed one of the olives in her basket. She placed it in his hand, and he stared at it. He looked back up at her, brows furrowed in confusion.
“Penelope!” A woman’s voice screamed in the distance. The girl turned her head towards the sound.
So that’s her name, Odysseus thought.
The girl—Penelope—started walking towards the voice. Odysseus watched quietly as she left.

Penelope saw a glint form in Anticlea’s eyes.
“There’s also our oldest son.” At her words, Laertes smiled, something Penelope could see was forced.
“You are lucky to have been blessed by the gods with a son, Laertes. If he's anything like his father, he will be a fine king,” Icarius replied, seemingly unphased at the tension between the couple. “I would very much like to acquaint myself with your family, if possible.”
“Unfortunately, for all the god’s blessings, our son has been stricken with health issues since childhood. It is unlikely he will be able to take the throne or greet you, great king,” Laertes said, and Penelope could feel him trying to place a lid back onto this topic.
Or, trying to cover up a 'curse' sent by the gods, the royal family of Ithaca attempts to keep the fact that their prince has wings behind closed doors. Fate has decided that Penelope and Odysseus will meet regardless.

Summary
Penelope has always been labeled as the "good wife", and her marriage as an ideal marriage with a "like-minded" husband.
But she was also a daughter in Sparta, where women were trained physically just like the men. She was a daughter of a Naiad, and so was half-divine. She ruled Ithaca without male help for 20 years - an island in an area known for its piracy. She had mean skills and the backing of the divine. She was every bit the hero that her husband was...and her story began before she even met him.
WARNING: The character of Odysseus is morally gray. As Homer says, he was "complicated." Kings of the time murdered, raped, pillaged (Need more livestock? Go steal some!), and were a law unto themselves. I am trying to walk a thin line between not rewriting history and also writing for a contemporary audience. There is reference to rape in Chapter 15. It is not explicit. Violence is not graphic, but is part of this story.

Telemachus finds the strength to face the suitors as a mysterious figure slaughters them from the shadows.
--“Left the weapons unlocked. Stupid,” a different suitor taunts. He kicks Telemachus’ dagger far from his reach and Telemachus watches it skitter from his view in despair. “They’re ours for the taking.” he kneels down to Telemachus’ eye level. “Just like your mother.”
Telemachus snarls and lunges for him but there are hands on his shoulders, holding him back and hoisting him up. “Don’t you dare–” A punch to his gut stops him. He heaves, body unable to hunch in on himself due to the suitors forcing him upright.
“Come, brothers,” he hears a voice say. “Take a weapon, be sure to arm yourselves. There is still a chance we can win against this madman.” The man walks to Telemachus and gestures to the two suitors. They let him go but before Telemachus can stumble away, the back of his neck is grabbed in an unyielding grip. “If we kill his runt.”
“No!”
