Summary
Picks up in the car after the Suwa family showdown in Ep.12.
They have been partners for years, and they still are. They're just a different kind now, I guess? After making the drastic (and arguably psychotic) plan to leave the hitman business, Kazuki and Rei are forced to make a huge life transition. They have to become normal people. As they work together to adapt to this new and confusing life they find themselves developing new and confusing feelings as well. A continuation of what the anime set up, they are just two "best friends" trying to find a way through their mental illness, past trauma, and their everyday lives together. Unless, maybe there's more to it than that?
I wanted to dive into their near future but also elaborate on their past. So every chapter I am trying to include a current event and a related memory.
CW: mentions of suicidal ideation, mental illness, panic attacks, descriptions of trauma

also op idk if u can see this but ur fic bangs so far
i don't really read a lot of longfics so i was hesitant to start this, especially bc u didn't tag a dynamic despite the fic being marked as explicit, cause i can be kind of a picky eater when it comes to the dynamics, but you've managed to hook me on the emotional beats so well that i don't even care who tops anymore i just want them to hold hands or something my god

Summary
Miri is five and a half -- how did time fly so quickly?!? Kazuki drops her off for Kindergarten when he gets absolutely soaked by sudden weather. He comes home to Rei and softness ensues.
Set a year or so after the anime's main plotline ends. (I needed more of them)

Rei and Kazuki finally come to terms with what their relationship is.

Summary
In another life, the silence that lurked on the other side could have been anything: a cloaked assassin, a huddling of mafiosos, anything and everything seeking to prove that the bullet lodged in his shoulder wasn’t enough to keep away from the clutches of the family that threatened to take away the life he only just began to live. But now, all it simply meant was that Kazuki had already taken Miri to school, hadn’t come back, and left all the cleaning to him.
Two scenes set a couple of years into their retirement, where Rei and Kazuki spend their days inching towards leaving the apartment behind for good. When their right to live in peace is cast in shadow by their still-uncertain future, Miri's boundless optimism shines a light that empowers them to move forward despite their doubts and uncertainties.

Kazuki walks the corridors of the Suwa Estate with his shoulders back and head held high. Holds close the little dignity he can salvage. It’s hard to gain respect when everyone sees you as little more than the boss’ bed-warmer. He endures anyway.
