Surrounded by the dead, this is a story about life.
Michael pushes his nose into his arm, gun cocked, adrenaline pumping his pain away with each thump of his heart. He sees the shredded woman, jaw hanging loose, pushing the washing machine door closed as it swings open, broken. Behind her, bones, barely picked clean, carcasses—Michael counts three. Three cows, bodies torn apart by an angry hunger.

Summary
No one had ever asked to be born-especially one with little to no understanding about the world outside of a rotting barn.
But The Creature loved what he couldn't understand-the feeling of sunlight against his fingertips. Or the feeling of mice paws against his palms and chest. Or the peaceful silence whenever his father avoided the barn in favor of a whiskey bottle.
It was all he ever knew.
But it was never meant to last. Suddenly, The Creature was left in a world he knew nothing about and no one to guide him through the certain dangerous that lingered in said world-not that anyone tried to help him before, either.
Until The Creature met a lonely man in the woods; a man with tired eyes but warmer than the sun had ever been.

Dennis don’t much like what he’s seeing, but he don’t do anything, not yet — humans follow each other on paths all the time, they walk too close, talk funny, hunch over — not until he sees the knife.
He lunges out of the trees with a howl, bursting onto the path Robby’s on, backlit by the hospital behind them.
Dennis tackles the man to the ground.

Whitaker was always taught that being in love with the same gender was wrong. So when he realised he was, he shut down. He promised himself never to act on it or even show it. He thought he was hiding it well.
Olgilvie was blunt all the time. So when he caught onto the way Whitaker would look at Robby, he told everyone. He spread it around like wild fire.
