Summary
Hiccup almost died. But he's used to that. Somehow on Berk, everything is a near-death experience, especially for him. When a silly snowball fight goes horribly wrong, he ends up almost drowning in a frozen lake. But perhaps the most terrifying part wasn't even the drowning, it's the strange, repetitive dreams that came after, and what they mean. A boy with snow-white hair, a frozen pond he doesnt recognize.
What Hiccup doesn't know is that the boy in his dreams is also dreaming of him, and has equally as many questions, if not more, than he does.

The good news was that the pair appeared just as interested in Hiccup and Toothless. The bad news was that they seemed dead-set on making their presence as difficult and secretive as possible.

As Hiccup learns what it means to have power he didn't choose, he also starts to realize his heart's been quietly changing its mind about who he wants standing next to him when things get hard. The story of the Dragon Master went like this:
He appeared five years ago, riding the only known Nightfury alive as of today. He came in the night in armor made of gleaming black scales raiding dragon hunter ships, his face obscured by a matching mask. No one knows the mans true identity, and if they do, they never lived long enough to tell.
It was rumored that he would bring the dragons he saved back to his island. It remained hidden, a haven for the beasts he rescued. So hidden, in fact, that many believed it lay at the very end of the world; people called it the Edge.
Rumor has it that he's building a dragon army, so large that he could burn entire islands within minutes and disappear in the same amount of time.
No one knows who he is, but Jack does.
The Dragon Master straddled his hips. He gripped Jack’s wrists above his head with one hand, grabbing his sword and bringing it to Jack’s throat.
“Give me one reason I shouldn’t use this,” He snarled, and Jack recognized that nasally voice anywhere. It couldn't be true; it was impossible. He'd died during the battle with the Red Death five years ago, and yet...
“Hiccup?"

A mandatory month-long vacation from Guardianship with a list of magical souvenirs to bring back? Sounds easy enough... Given a simple task and armed with the best travel guide a timeless being can offer, Jack isn't really anticipating any hiccups in the plan.
