"A big name observing me? Jesus." Jack’s tone could not be drier if he tried. "And for how long am I supposed to be this mystery woman's personal medical tutor?"

"Until she's satisfied with her knowledge for her role, they said," Gloria replied, wincing slightly in anticipation of Jack’s response.

Jack let out a humorless laugh. "So, four years plus residency, then? Fantastic." He gestured around the bustling ER. "Gloria, we're slammed every night. I don't have time to babysit a wannabe TV doctor. You know how this is going to go? She’s gonna come in here, faint at the first sight of blood, and then she’ll go and play a mediocre doctor who falls in love with their patient and have this forbidden romance because it’s a conflict of interest."

Gloria raised an eyebrow, “Sounds like a very specific plot point. Care to elaborate on which show you have in mind?”

“How about all of them.” Jack muttered darkly.

Or... Jack went to med school and didn't sign up to babysit some Hollywood starlet trying to play a doctor on TV.

"Also, take your soap out of the staff shower when your shift is done. Okay, Doc?" Jack said to me, needing to get the last word like it was an irritated dig.

"Why, you don't like it?" I quipped, sitting up from the bed and reaching for my tennis shoes.

"I smell like a second year resident," He said, beginning to shut the door to the on call room.

"A regular occurence I'm sure!" I shout, but he already is far away by the time the door shuts. His presence definitely missing from the room.

The new young resident, Doctor Sandra "Sadie" Crane, arrives at the Pitt on a cold fall night and quickly becomes the bane of Doctor Jack Abbot's existence both in and out of the workplace. After her arrival, the push and pull dynamic between the handsome but tough ER cowboy and the young but risky subordinante running from her past bubbles into something neither one of them can figure out but can't seem to resist.

What happened to Liam Shaw after Wolf-359?

Who were his friends, his shipmates, his captains, his lovers, on his way to Titan’s center chair?

What did he do to earn his commendations?

How did he end up with a former Borg as his First Officer?

Could he have survived Frontier Day? How? What would happen to him afterward?

And what if he couldn’t remember?

PICARD didn’t tell us nearly enough about our beloved dipshit from Chicago – but LEGACY could if we can persuade Skydance/Paramount to make it.

In the meantime – I reverse-engineered my own version of the story.

    Summary

    My dragonfly,
my black-eyed fire, the knives in the kitchen are singing
for blood, but we are at the crossroads, my little outlaw,
and this is the map of my heart, the landscape
after cruelty which is, of course, a garden, which is
a tenderness, which is a room, a lover saying Hold me
tight, it’s getting cold. We have not touched the stars,
nor are we forgiven, which brings us back
to the hero’s shoulders and a gentleness that comes,
not from the absence of violence, but despite
the abundance of it. The lawn is drowned, the sky on fire,
the gold light falling backward through the glass
of every room. I’ll give you my heart to make a place
for it to happen, evidence of a love that transcends hunger.
Is that too much to expect?

SNOW AND DIRTY RAIN, Richard Siken
