Summary
When people first began to accept soulmates and the supposed magic that came along with them there was a bit of outrage. Most of it focused on the limited rights soulmates had in regards to each other but also the state of relationships that would come with the change.
That was almost 50 years ago.
Now, there was a set of rules for everybody. Neil didn't ever expect to be able to follow them. Not with having so many soulmates, not with the fact that they'd likely be on the run till they died.

“Hi,” he says, as if he wasn’t currently leaving permanent stains on Andrew’s favourite bean bag with his fucking vital body fluid. “I’d shake your hand, but...” Nathaniel Wesninski lifts a hand, bloody and bruised, some fingers looking grotesquely out of shape. He clenches them anyway and winces when the pain seems to hit him, but his expression gives nothing away.He’s a p r o b l e m.

He wasn't anyone, not really; not anymore. He hadn't really been anyone in years now. There'd been a time. Once. But there were entire lifetimes between who he could have been and what he'd become. He could taste it sometimes; blackberries and sand stinging his tongue like the iron branded on his shoulder.
It was easier to pretend he'd never been anyone at all.
"I'm nothing," he answered. The ghost of a smile pulled at his lips; sharp and cruel. "A wraith." The Wraith, he didn't say, but the shadows ran through Andrew's eyes and he wondered if Andrew had heard it anyways.
