It hit him then that he hadn’t really been feeling for the last few minutes. His body was in fight or flight, and it chose flight, prioritizing getting away from danger over feeling any fear. But now he was safe for the moment, at least relatively, and he was starting to realize just how bad this really was. William wasn’t like Vyncent, he wasn’t strong and he didn’t have powers, being out here was a death sentence for him.
Everything slowed down as he stood there, back to back with Vyncent, watching the world fall apart in front of them. Time almost seemed to stop as he had a revelation, heart dropping to his gut.
He was going to die. Again. And this time, he wasn’t going to come back.

That didn't stop him from anxiously wondering why. He couldn't stop thinking about Edyn, what she might have said to that Navy officer. What the officer had said to her. Why she couldn't tell him any of it, or what they were doing to keep her so constantly terrified. He also kept thinking of something far far stupider, way less important, and certainly nowhere near what he should be focusing on.
How he'd sworn that if he won the duel, Chip could never date his sister. And how he had won. And how knowing that was on the line he had fought so much harder.

The first thing Jesse sees when he wakes up is the blinding yellow-gold of the setting sun casting long shadows over the crouching figures of his friends. He almost panics before he catches sight of Reuben, too.
The first thing Jesse smells is the acrid scent of smoke and the sharp tang of gunpowder clinging to his sweaty skin, remnants of the explosion still lingering in the air.
The first thing Jesse tastes is the metallic iron of his own blood on his cracked lips. He runs his tongue over them, wincing both at the bitterness and the sting of his saliva against the torn skin. The flavor lingers in the back of his throat and he nearly gags on it.
The first thing Jesse feels is the ground trembling with the weight of the destroyed storm’s remains as they fall to the ground. The withered amalgamation of blocks that once formed its body crash down, crushing the damp grass beneath.
The first thing Jesse hears is an insistent, ear-piercing ringing, which gradually fades into a dull throbbing pain in the back of his skull. The second thing Jesse hears is… nothing.

When Suzuki confesses to Yosuke, he’s not sure why he’s completely caught off-guard by it. He hasn’t been expecting it in the least, and stranger still is his hesitance to accept it.
“There’s probably a reason you didn’t fall to your knees and start worshiping Suzuki-chan at her feet once she confessed to you,” Chie tells him. “Here’s what I think: you’ll reject Suzuki-chan before the year ends. But! You’ll have fallen in love with someone else already.”
Yosuke’s not so girl-crazy these days that he falls head-over-heels for just anyone on the street. Like, who else could he fall in love with? Yu? That’d be hilarious. His partner and best friend whom he calls every day, visits more often than anyone else in the IT, and maybe is a little too touchy-feely with for normal guy friends. Yeah, right. Chie doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
