The fire crackled in the ring of rocks. A charred log fell, kicking up embers and billowing smoke. Ichabod stirred from his dreamy daze, tossed more firewood into the flames, and then sank back into his lounging posture. Meanwhile, Drey snatched up his beer and took a swig, lamenting with a burning face that he would miss Ichabod fiercely.

Even during his time as a Black Rose Pirate, indomitable until the day the ocean swallowed them up, death had been unavoidable during some adventures. Drey had felt it before, that sudden sting, the snap as the brain’s static ceased, his heart throbbing to a stop. He had learned to let go of that fear, for the crew, because it held him back. Finn had always been there to fix him right up anyway.
Poor Ichabod. How horrifying it must be, dying for the first time without someone to save him.

The first time Ichobod saw his husband after years of wondering wether he was a dead or alive there were three things he noticed about his appearance–in a stark order.
The first was his face. His jet-black hair had grown even longer, strands framing his cheeks came down to his chest and the rest was tied behind his back. His face was clearly older, more defined, and his peach fuzz had grown into real scruff along his jaw and chin. His eyes were deeper set now, a little more haunted, and a couple more nicks along places on his features had been added. But regardless, he was finally seeing his husbands face.
