“You don’t owe me anything, Simon,” Wille interrupts him at once, words all but falling out of him. Like he can no longer hold them at bay. “I can appreciate the other day for what it was. But we can forget about it if that’s what you want.”
Blood roars in Simon’s ears, something sick burning in his chest and clawing its way up his throat.
"I think we should maybe forget about it," Wilhelm had once said.
He pulls his hand away from Wilhelm’s knee abruptly and clenches his fingers together in his own lap. Simon will never understand how he keeps managing to tumble into these situations. Perhaps it really is him, always laying himself bare and unwanted at people’s feet.
His voice is a lot smaller than he would like when he asks, “Is that what you want?”

Wilhelm stepped onto the pool deck and gasped, his mouth falling open in shock.
The most beautiful boy he’d ever seen was standing there in the shallow end, playing and singing with a group of preschoolers who were giggling and shrieking delightedly. A mess of damp curls flopped across the boy’s forehead, brown eyes sparkling and a grin stretched across his face as he sang. As Wilhelm watched, the boy lifted a blonde haired toddler in the air, tossing her up and catching her as the little girl giggled. Wilhelm tried very hard not to focus on the way the muscles in the boy’s arms flexed as he lifted the girl effortlessly. A second later he forgot it entirely when the boy stood up to his full height, displaying his toned chest, rivulets of water sluicing down his tan skin and lightly defined abs. Wilhelm’s mouth went dry.

In the week leading up until Christmas, Wilhelm was a member of the household on a mere technicality. He replied when he was spoken to, but didn’t initiate conversation. He left his rooms when it was proper, but never stayed a moment longer than necessary. His mother didn’t look him in the eyes, and Wilhelm didn’t want her to. He simply… existed. That much he could do, without fucking everything else up.
