Gale had always been spoken for, and John didn’t necessarily mean by Marge, though she had always been there, in the background, a living specter. Gale was a daddy’s boy. Or had desperately wanted to be one. John had had his suspicions but it was that night under the bombs that John could pretend were fireworks as long as Gale kept looking at them like they were, when Gale finally admitted it. Not in so many words of course, he never would. But it was the longing in his voice that gave him away, John couldn’t miss it.

Xaden Riorson thought he had figured out how to survive in this place. Now in his final year at Basgiath War College, he’s risen to the rank of Wingleader. He is focused on one thing: getting every kid of the rebellion bonded to a dragon. Then the real work can begin.

This follows the dialogue and events of Rebecca Yarros’s Fourth Wing, retold from Xaden’s perspective. This was written prior to the release of Iron Flame, so all theories and speculation are my own and unconfirmed. It's my best guess at exploring how Xaden might have felt throughout the story and features new scenes with Liam, Garrick, Imogen, Sgaeyl and Tairn. Major plot spoilers from the very first chapter.

“Oh,” said Louis. He moved one of his hands to stroke through Harry’s hair again. “Like... you wanna play, but without sex?”
“Yeah, I dunno” said Harry. “Is that even a thing?” He pulled his hand out of Louis’s shirt and brought it up to play with the soft hair on the back of Louis’s neck instead. “I just feel like... I wanna be close to you.”

Summary

“Thank you,” Geoff says, taking a sip of his tea. “What did you tell him?”
Louis has a sip as well, lets the tea burn down his throat too quickly, too hot, and he feels it all the way down to his stomach. “The truth. Essentially,” he replies after a moment, licking his lips, relishing the slightly bitter taste of the brew that’s never quite strong enough for Louis’ liking. At least it’s not decaf. “That my dog scented it. That I didn’t touch the body. That I came here first thing.”
Geoff nods pensively. “Did he believe you?”
“Probably not. There’s only so many people who can drown on dry land before it gets fishy.”
or: Harry is a journalist, Louis has lots of secrets and the moors aren't exactly the ideal place to rekindle a lost romance.
