“I’m sure, yes,” Annatar replied, offering no further explanation. This was a situation that definitely called for an explanation.
“It doesn’t pay well,” Celebrimbor tried. “The position is more aimed at young students, trying to make some extra money between classes, or…” — “Will you let me fill out an application, or not?”
The question came out so sharp and cutting that Celebrimbor almost flinched. That was a voice that was used to yelling at his secretary for getting a lunch order wrong, and not a voice that would do well at welcoming customers to a small little coffee-shop like this one.Or:

Thinking about all these horrors however, Mairon quite felt as though none of them, not his own cruel vanity, nor the deadly creatures, nor the nightmarish shadows or never-ending screams of agony that could always be heard echoing through the long stone corridors…, none of them were the scariest thing in this fortress.
The scariest thing in Angband, by far, was Melkor’s boredom.Or: I was bored, and it's almost Christmas. This is what happens.

“Sometimes,” Melkor had once muttered, a few years ago, laying next to Mairon on silken bedsheets, “Sometimes I don’t dare to turn my head in the morning, in fear that I might look over, and you’re gone. I fear that you might have left for Valinor. That you went back to your old Master, to bend your knee for him, to ask forgiveness, to prove your good will in work for my brother. And then I look over, and I see you, and it almost hurts that you’re still there. Because you should be with them. You should be happy there.”
Or: Millennia after Arda had been build anew, Mairon and Melkor talk. And even though much has changed, their love stays ethereally eternal.

It wasn’t supposed to become a fight.
Jason had gone to the Cave of his own volition, to ask Dick about a case he was working on, a trafficking ring that was moving into the alley after years on Bludhaven. Jason had asked a question, Dick had admitted to not knowing, and told Jason to ask Bruce. Bruce would know. So Jason asked Bruce.
Jason didn’t know how they had ended up here, but somehow a simple question about the legal procedure that would follow the bust had turned into a screaming match.

Melkor might have come back from Valinor, but it feels as if he did not come back whole. And in places where the lost pieces are supposed to be, there is a coldness – of a kind that’s new even for him.
Mairon vows to himself – that blizzard spun by Melkor to keep him away, the frigid distance his Lord put there to freeze out the pain – he will get rid of it.
He will make this ice thaw.
