"Jacob never made it a habit to look into people's eyes. Since his first shift he's always been nervous of Imprinting on someone, on anyone; it didn't matter if they were a friend or a stranger. He was just too young, he felt, to reasonably be confident being one part of a whole soul. He barely felt confident being himself most days.

The age old fanfic trope of 'Jacob Imprints on Edward' and treated seriously. The timeline of it all is fudged so I could have fun.

Another few minutes passed in silence after that, both of them too engrossed in their own homework to say anything further. Peter had put his headphones in so he could concentrate better without any distractions.
“Michael,” the guy says suddenly. Peter looked up at the sound of his voice, but he didn’t hear him quite clearly.
He pulls an earbud out of his ear. “What?”
The guy—Michael, apparently—clears his throat. “My name is Michael,” he doesn’t look at Peter as he speaks, he’s scribbling something on his notebook instead.
“Oh,” Peter breathes out. He didn’t expect the guy to introduce himself. “I’m Peter.”
“I know who you are.”

Summary
Jace is struggling with the emotional fallout of Clary losing her memories, feeling adrift and overwhelmed by grief and guilt. Although Jace was initially reluctant, he asked Simon to officially be his boyfriend. Simon eagerly accepts, and they venture out together to McDonald’s, where their conversation flows easily as they share their pasts and grief. Their bond deepens, and both find solace in one another, realizing that they can be happy together. The weight of Jace's emotional struggles remains, but with Simon’s support, he feels a flicker of hope for the future.
