Rafe Cameron has issues. He's trying, he really is, but sometimes he really can't deal with everything. He's supposed to be a kook, with everything handed to him on a silver spoon, and he hates it. He hates feeling like he'll never escape his father's disappointment or his bullshit friends, always putting on a facade.
JJ Maybank also has issues. Don't get him wrong, he has amazing friends and the perfect support system, but none really get him. He's a pogue, having to cheat and steal to level the playing field, and he's okay with that. He's okay with going home to a beating, to the sympathetic looks from his friends, to the kooks seeking him out for a fight.
But what if it all wasn't okay?

And now, with the symptoms of the beginning of his heat and being woken in the dead of night by the psycho of the island on a completely deserted beach, he was praying that whoever was up there, would take his side at least for this moment.
And maybe the one up did it, he couldn't say either, but what he can say is that since that night he had discovered that he could have something he never expected to have.

It's been 5 years since Pitch's defeat and things haven't gotten better for Jack. His relationship with the Guardians is strained, he's not allowed to spend much time with his believers and he's tired of trying to please everyone when they never care.
So he accepts an offer to start life anew in another world.Now as Jackson Overland Frost, he was ready to live out his second human life happily in a cave with dragons for company, surviving off of grass and blueberries. Maybe meeting some humans along the way.
That is until he gets kidnapped.Or: Jack making friends, falling in love, and getting adopted by both humans and dragons. Repeatedly. (I'm serious it happens way too often)

Summary
When a distress call from Father Time turns out to be a trap set by Pitch, Jack ends up lost in a time before the Guardians with only Baby Tooth at his side. The two immortals are lucky enough to be found by a group of (somewhat) sympathetic teenagers whom they quickly befriend, including the awkward and funny leader of Berk's Dragon Academy. Before long Jack finds himself assimilating into Berk's culture and way of life. Even though he is effectively stuck, with new friends by his side Jack finds he doesn't mind taking the long road back to the present.

It's the first winter after Pitch's defeat. Jack is happy, he's not alone anymore, and his memories are gradually returning. But when a treasure hunt gone wrong puts Jack and Jamie in danger, flinging them through time and space, they find themselves on an island neither of them have heard of before. Jack's first priority is to get Jamie home safe, but Berk's inhabitants - human and otherwise - are certainly not making it easy.
Knowing they will leave Berk and the Vikings behind as soon as they know how to, Jack is not going to risk the pain of growing close to any of these people (or dragons, for that matter). But Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, wearing his heart on his sleeve, doesn't seem to want to take the hint.
