Four years later Astrid is a student at Berk University and of course Hiccup seems to be everywhere she goes.

A rewritten version of Behind the mask.
This is a refined version of one of my favourite stories on this page. I for one have not edited it all out of context, meaning that I've tried to keep it as original as I could. It's somewhat different yes, that's for sure. Please don't sue me. It's also a work in progress and it has a lot of development in needed to be fixed. I'm pretty much new to writing and this will be my first one with an original structure. So counting on trying to make my own version of a complete new fanfic is still not to be decided. Whether I'll post that version that's in works I'll have to see. I want to but I'm not happy with it and it's too short and frankly, I've been going on about for a year with it. Rewriting and so on. Anyways back to this. This story has a new taste of well uh everything. I'll keep up with posting notes about what has been done and whatnot. It's a mess this thing so uh yeah... Enjoy?

In which Astrid got to the cove just a few minutes too late, and Hiccup had already left. In which, six years later, the dragon raids are a thing of the past, but now a madman with a dragon army is threatening Berk. In which Astrid, now heir to the Chiefdom, convinces Stoick to ask the mysterious Dragon Master for help.
Hiccup obliges. It's his fight, after all.
However, he may have forgotten to anticipate how hard it would be to prepare for war alongside his old friends and family without letting them know it was him. But then again, what other choice does he have?
Toothless is finding the whole situation highly amusing.

Hiccup has dealt with a lot of pain in his life. The loss of a limb, the near constant phantom pain of the aftermath, being burned more times than he can count, struck by lightning, held in chains and beaten by Outcasts and Hunters. It only makes sense that he's... adept at handling it. Along with that, he forgives almost everyone that comes across him and shows that they deserve it. Alvin, Dagur, Mala, Atali, Viggo, all of them had in some way crossed, threatened, or attacked Hiccup or his people, yet he forgives them, and seeks out peace and even friendship with them. The thing is, sometimes he gives his forgiveness to those that don't believe they deserve it.
OR
The gang are all ambushed and captured by Viggo and Krogan, leaving Dagur as the only one able to save them. The two Hunter Leaders are prepared to punish them should they not meet their demands. Hiccup takes the hits for them, just like he has before, so many times in the past, and does so without expecting thanks, or forgiveness, just like he has before. However, Viggo has more of a plan than just senselessly beating the boy. No, he wants to break his friends as well, without even touching them. And all he'll need to do so is the past.
