Rocky wasn't courting Grace. Nope. Not at all. Not even when every totally-just-for-a-friend gift he gives him is made with such loving dedication to making his Grace's life just that little bit happier. He couldn't bear to ruin what they had by asking for too much - but he didn't account for Grace returning the favor with his own gift.
Or, two times Rocky definitely wasn't giving Grace courting gifts, and one time Grace absolutely was giving Rocky a courting gift.

Summary
It's not uncommon for souls to wander the realms, often quiet or idly humming. One may liken it to dementia, but it's not nearly as fretful. Heaven would not allow it if anything did threaten to disturb Grace, nor would the Choir. All these souls need is their tether.
Where Grace smiles at being addressed and returns to his wandering, Rocky asks about Grace, and takes in the information easily granted. Where Grace goes, Rocky follows.
For how well Adrian seems to understand so soon after arrival, one may be tempted to think they weren't as deeply bonded to, or devoted to, or intertwined with Rocky and Grace. In reality, their sense of self was just a bit better established, and it was a very stubborn trait in that it refused to be dislodged in death.

Grace loved Rocky to bits. More than Rocky knew, and far deeper than the word meant when swapped among friends. Turning around to rescue them had given Grace plenty of time to think, and think, he did. About Rocky's bossy, determined, playful nature. Their willingness to accept Grace's every quirk (however "dumb" and "stupid"), understand his personality and needs, and adapt to it all. Their talent with feats of engineering were greater than anything Grace had ever seen. Rocky was smart as a whip and just as quick. And their unhesitating desire to trust and bond with Grace, to work together and save each other's stars? To risk dying to save him? Boy, oh boy. He loved Rocky.
A shame he'd have to just keep that to himself. Right?

Grace's tongue is still coated with toothpaste residue. His whole mouth is minty-fresh, and he spent three hours earlier trying to convince Rocky to let him disconnect the mass spec to see if they could hotwire it to work on the floor, and his stomach is cramping and they're still more than a year away from Erid and he doesn't remember what fresh fruit tastes like and he's tired. He's so tired.
So he doesn't notice, at first, when things start to go to hell.
“He's talking about my suppressants,” Grace sighs, rinsing his toothbrush off and dropping it in the cup next to Simon's before bringing both hands up to rub over his face. “I ran out ages ago – well, except for a handful to keep in reserve so we can synthesize more when we get to Erid – so my scent's probably changing. It's why I've been so sweaty. It should equalize, soon, or –”
“Suppressants?” Simon interrupts, and Grace drops his hands to see him backing away, his face contorted in an expression Grace has never seen before, his eyes wide. “Sup- wait. I thought you were a beta. Why would you need suppressants?”
