Lucy takes a step back, stumbling slightly. The man advances and she can see his eyes glint in the moonlight. “Go away,” she says firmly, hoping he couldn’t hear the shaking in her voice.
“Don’t be like that,” the man says, stopping a couple of feet in front of her, “You’re the one who’s out here alone.”
He reaches for her and before Lucy can jump back, another person steps between them, seemingly out of the shadows. In the blink of an eye, he presses the blade of a knife to the man’s throat. “She’s not alone,” he says, “But you are.”

The decree that Crown Prince Zuko would be sent on a mission to seek out and capture the Avatar in order to redeem himself in the eyes of the Fire Nation is abruptly rescinded only three short hours after it is made law.
In the end, the only ones who know the full story are the Fire Lord himself, the Princess, and her two handmaidens. You see, no one notices the way Mai stands just a tiny bit closer to Azula, after; how Ty Lee’s affection is a little softer than before. How the Princess withdraws further into herself, how she seems to sleep less. The new scar on Mai’s wrist is small, but it’s not meant to be for everyone to see, so that’s okay.
Life debts are tricky to handle, but in rare cases, they’re worth it.
